High-tech atlatl
« on: November 09, 2019, 09:16:28 pm »
So, does it strike anybody else funny that 3rivers is selling a carbon atlatl?  I'm not criticizing; if that's your thing cool.  I just find the juxtaposition really funny.  I mentioned this to my wife, who pointed out the irony of an online primitive archery forum.  But that's...um...totally different..........

I don't know, I'll think about while I'm cooking supper in my primitive microwave oven (which I crafted from stone and rawhide).

Stranger things have happened!  I just don't remember what or when! >:D (AT).  That is right up there, though!  Change is constant, progress is optional!  I guess the sling is next!  A carbon fg fabric, maybe (lol). Maybe, I shouldn't give any one ideas!

I think it is hilarious.  I totally want one.  would never buy one.  But I love the irony.

I can understand the sectioned darts for shipping (only in wood, though) but why the atlatl?  I think you still have to throw it by hand/arm power. I'll stay with the wood/bone variety!

I am waiting for the GPS enabled darts with the steerable vanes.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

Might as well go for the exploding warhead tips, too.

not real sure about the steerable vanes, but exploding warhead tips are a no-no in Colorado (AT) (lol) )P(. They ruin a lot of meat!

It's all about the shot placement, Jerry...all about the shot placement.

Imagine the shock of the elders when the young Hunter introduced a spear chucker and a lighter spear that went further, more accurately than a hand thrown spear!  "Oh my! Horrors, it will never last!"  Jean Auel's account in "Valley of the Horses" is much neater, and fun to read!  I agree with shot placement, regardless of range or weapon!

ha ha ha

I was out hunting last year with a compound-shooting buddy of mine.  During a mid-day break we got to discussing the relative merits of our weapons.  He said, "I wonder if primitive people had this same conversation:  'Zog could use spear, but Zog a traditionalist at heart.  Zog just want to use a rock.' "
