Could someone make something like this?
« on: November 29, 2019, 09:17:44 am »
Howdy, folks.  I am looking for something like this.  A 2" deep, fairly tight belt hook with a small loop (smaller than the 2nd picture; maybe 1/2") on the bottom, to attach a quiver to my belt.

When I make my new quiver, I want the option of attaching it to an over-shoulder strap (plains/northern Euro style) or, when I'm wearing my back country pack, simply attaching it to my belt.  Since this is a primitive quiver, I think a hand-forged iron or brass hook would fit the style a little better than a stainless steel carabiner.   (Do people hand-make iron or brass carabiners?  That would actually be pretty nice...)

Most of the hooks like this online are from Europe and might or might not get here in a month or three.  Anybody have anything like this lying around you might be interested in selling or trading?

I can't help you with making it but if the right steel is used it could also be a fire starting striker.   (=)

Yeah, that's really nice, Kevin!  If you could make the outside hook into a little loop, and maybe remove the prong on the bottom of the belt hook (so it will go on bigger belts) that would be about perfect.  Doable?

I'm waiting to hear back from a local friend of mine who does a bit of blacksmithing.  So I'm not quite ready to place an order yet, but what would you want for something like that?  Let's say, for the sake of discussion, that I might pay you in money, stripped turkey feathers, or perhaps by composing a song/Irish tune/epic haiku in your honor...

Pat, that occurred to me, too!  I've seen patterns for quivers that have a flint/steel/tinder pouch built-in.  My highland ancestors are said to have used their brooch pins for striking fires.  But the back of a knife blade might be more convenient...
