Flint Ridge knife neck sheath added
« on: January 10, 2020, 04:16:08 pm »
Chipped this one out of a piece of flint ridge I got from Frank. It had a bit of junky stuff with bubbles on the one side but I managed to make a couple platforms and wack it off with percussion. Turned out better than I thought it would. Probably still do a little fine sharpening yet and thinking I might make a neck knife sheath for it yet to.

Nice job BJ, some of that ridge can be challenging but oh so colorful, looks great. Bob

Thanks Outback. It sure is purty. Gotta be the reason God made it so it could be fractured in a conicodal fracture.

Thanks Ben.

Good job Brian.

I went ridge hunting with another knapper after the knap in. We got about a 2 gallon bucket of it off private property. Haven't had a chance to cook it up yet.

Very nice Brian. I really like Roy's cooked Ridge but it can get frustrating some times.

Looks good to me!  Good color on that piece.  My ridge stash is getting low.  About time for me to resupply some rock!

The fella I made this for wanted me to make him a sheath to. He had some tanned deer hide he wanted me to use. It's all I used. I cut a strip of his hide and used it to double stitch it together. Then I cut two more and flemish twisted them for the straps. Then I cut a little fringe. I like it. It's really comfortable.

Thanks Jerry. I like how this all came together. I'm thinking I need to start working on some brain tanned hides again. I've been to afraid to cut them up. I'm getting a bunch of ideas now. Getting more comfortable with the idea of cutting them now.
