bubby's pyramid-Maple board bow advice
« on: February 12, 2020, 06:59:41 pm »
Hi guys and girls,
I did a naughty thing and went to a local timber supplier and got an exotic (to New Zealand) hard maple board. . .

Being my first, and maybe only, board bow my current intention is to follow bubby's famous pyramid build along.
http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,35312.0.html
the board is 2 1/8" wide by 3/4" thick.
The intended use of the bow is for me to stretch my draw length out from 26" to 28-29" (I am 6ft with long arms, I short draw due to bad form and i exacerbate the problem by building bows to suit my short draw  (--)) aiming for around 50-55#.

Does maple respond well to to a belly heat treat? and do you think bubby's pyramid is the most suitable design for this wee project?

Cheers in advance for any feedback.

Make it at least 67” long with a 10” handle. Did not look at Bubbys bow thread so don’t know how long his was. Arvin
Well I'll say!!  Osage is king!!

Build it just like the build a long, 66" ttt is just fine and the 4" grip with two inch fades/dips works great, you can easily get a 28" draw length this way
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

thanks for the input guys, got her all roughed out and ready for the tree, same as yours bubby but a little wider at the fades because the board let me. might go for a slight z handle to ease up the arrow spine and because why not.

good to hear about the heat treat bubby, seems like you weren't that into it in the past.

And thanks Arvin, my board only let me get 66", but with 8" handle fades it's the same working limb.
