Wow.  That's going to be beautiful.  Thanks for the inspiration.

That's coming out for you really nice.Lot of time and lots of intricate detail.I should get me some intricate wood carving tools myself sometime. Will you have different colors on it when finished?
I made a sheath out of wood for a large knife once.I decorated it some also.I put brain tan on it and beaded it.Very safe type of sheath to use also.

Last time I did this I used colour,  time before that I just darkened the background. The grain is all a bit bland so I'll do something,  just not decided on what yet.

AHA!   Bas (raised) relief? (I hope) excellent idea!  I may have my terms mixed up, though!

Kinda put this  bit off but spent a few hours with a 5mm No7 and a 3mm No 3 (i think) and printed in the scales on one side. Will try and resist the temptation to hollow them until I've done the same to the other side

I made a wood sheath one time in the NW Coastal style.  The sheath is carved with teeth and a tongue, but a lot of it is obscured with the bear hide backing.

Wow knocker that's fantastic, thanks for sharing! Here's where I am after about 20 hours, couple more hours left detailing but the fish scale is nearly done. Next is 3 or 4 hours on the leaves, but the end is on sight.

You do beautiful work but isn't it rather fragile being wood and that thin? I would think it would crack if you looked at it the wrong way.

Well, you'd think so wouldn't you but I've dropped it a half a dozen times and so far so good. Only the handle end is thin,  wirh a thickness of 2mm but it very rapidly thickens up, its over 5mm thick within a half inch
