if I have to be a bad shot. . .
« on: June 12, 2020, 10:13:50 pm »
. . .why do I have to be so consistently bad?  This was at 20 yards.  The second arrow hit the first pretty straight on and right down the center.  All that work down the tubes.

That's one reason I don't shoot groups. I pick a different spot for each arrow.

I was aiming a foot higher.  The first one missed low, then so did the second.  Missed badly both times in exactly the same way.

LOL! We have a great contender for the best humble-brag of 2020!

In almost 20 years of this, I have yet to do this. Partially because I hate to shoot and partially because I shoot like I hate to shoot. I'm happy when I can just find most of my arrows!

I do this quite often (not the Robin Hood) but put a bad shot next to another bad shot. For me it happens when at the last moment I loose concentration on what I am aiming at and my subconscious must suddenly focus on the bright shiny fletches in the target and I suspect the rest sort of happens on “instinct”...

Russell, I shoot through the winter, and usually find one or two the first time I mow in the spring.  As Jeff Foxworthy said, "If you've ever mowed your grass and found a car...you might be a redneck."  Guess the same goes for arrows.

Jeff, thanks for the laugh.  Ever seen the site despair dot com?  They have some hillarious de-motivational posters.  Your experience reminded me of this one.

Ouch...

That has happened to me a few times at close range, but the damage is limited when I use plastic knocks.  All you have to do is cut away the broken plastic and glue on a new knock.  Splicing on wooden knocks has sometimes worked too.
