More of a shrub really, its about 15ft tall, multi-stemmed with stems up to about 1.5inch across, completely covered in these blossoms.

Someone on here made a bow out of Mock Orange many years ago.  Seems to me it turned out really well

Its in my local park but rhe groundsmen are fine with me taking the occasional stick, think I'll have a good look-see if there's anything useful there.

I have a bundle of mock orange shoot that Keenan gave me years ago that I never used. I'd be happy to trade them to you if you are interested. They are well seasoned.

One of my favorite shoots for arrow shafts along with dogwood. Easy to bend, stays straight and stiff enough.

Very interesting that your mock orange is good for shafts.
The stuff I've cut here resists straightening more than any wood I've tried. Won't go straight and stays bent like a good 'un haha...but it is very stiff per diameter.

Maybe different species have different properties? Wiki says there are about 60 types of Philadelphus

Bownarra, did you use mature shoots, at least 2 years old? That makes a big difference.
