1st "Successful" bow.

So after previously posting a failed attempt at a bow and receiving some great feedback I got back to work and completed my first successful and shootable bow.  I would love some feed back on this one.  It is a 66 inch NtN red oak  pyramid style board bow which pulls 40 pounds at 28.5 inches.  Stiff handle and cut in shelf and unbacked.  I finished it with several coats of tru-oil.

My first step was to ditch the FG tape which has been banished from my workshop forever...   :OK

I stuck with a familiar design and tried to keep it simple. 

Worked on the transition of the fades to make them smoother.

I would appreciate any feedback!

One question as well.  Would it be possible to heat treat in its finished state or would that affect the tru-oil finish?

Heat treating a true oil finish? I wood say yes but you may end up refinishing the bow. Maybe someone will address that . Nice build by the way.  Arvin

nice work. if your feeling successful, do the heat treat on the second or third bow.
It would be a shame to push it too far make two tomato stakes out of it.
Looks like from a stave? or a thick board?

Congrats! Nice 1st bow, wish mine looked that good.

I agree with Willie about the heat treat.... but if you do check the tiller after cause it may need to be adjusted again.

Good call.  I’ll leave this one be and call it good. 

3/4” red oak board.  Handle section is glued on.

Very nice. Congrats. Doesn’t it feel great to fling a arrow?

I agree with the heat treat a different one. As you build more bows you’ll find yourself experimenting and pushing the limits more. Usually till you push to far a then back off a little. Can’t do it all on the same bow. Enjoy this one and start on another.

Yup, wait until you've made more and this one is a bit tired and shot... then see what you can do to rejuvenate it. That's what old bows are for... experimenting :)
