Osage deflex reflex 46/26” (No. 115)

This bow was fumed after an alum treatment (makes a super smooth surface). The side profile and some minor corrections are done with dry heat. The narrowed handle got a hemp wrap; tips are buffalo; silencers from muscrat fur.

This design allows a long draw from this relative short stick. Maybe a good  bow for flight shooting. Took only 12 mm set.

Wow! Almost perfect.

I guess it's time for me to try a real deflex reflex bow. I have several bows that look like one, but they were never planned to be deflexed near the handle but Just naturally so or as a result of set. I would prefer a little longer one with tightly recurved tips.

It is beginning to look a lot like a Christmas. Like scp said. That’s what my first full draw picture looked like on my first bend through the handle bow. Unfortunately it wasn’t deflexed in the handle when I started.

Thanks for another one Simson. That aluminum and fuming sure is a nice effect.

Love those tips two. Looks like they are working ever so slightly.

No miracle and no secrets there. Just apply an alum solution (with water) on the wood, let soak in and dry, then start the fuming process.
I have done several experiments with different salts, like cooking salt, borax, alum, baking soda. All works well and make a slightly different result with the fuming. If I remember right I have posted some of this experiments here.
