Anything that will help you achieve good tiller will help you develop a better eye for tillering. The tillering Gizmo is an incredible tool, not a crutch. Use it well and enjoy the results.

Agreed Pat B I don't want any hinges. Will a tillering gizmo help me develope a better eye for tiller, the main reason I haven't made one is I don't want to stunt my growth.

It will let you fix problems you can't see yet and produce a better bow. I would say it is good for your eye because it will highlight problem areas that you can then look at and try to see what is going on while they are still very slight.

That is true mark. Brad it is 44lbs at 16" on the long string

It will, it is hard to train your eye to look for proper tiller if you haven't seen much of it.

The gizmo is just another tool to make sure you are not missing anything on your limbs while you tiller.

I have an artists eye and can see very small anomalies in a bow tiller, I wasn't always this way but learned over time, the gizmo trained me.

I could tiller without it, but why, it greatly speeds up the process, prevents hinges, low poundage from chasing tiller up and down the limbs and generally has you coming in over poundage so you have a lot of room for fine tuning the tiller.

Since you are making a new one, I would suggest also incorporating PatB's center finder arrangement on the back side of the gizmo. If you plan to work on staves it is a very helpful addition.

Does anyone see a little more set in the left limb?

I do for sure. That was the weak limb for most of the tillering and it had the closest thing to a hinge. It was dead straight before I started working it

Let the set dictate where you need to tiller. The set is telling you that the limb on the left is weaker, and starting to hinge 1/3 from the tip.

I was afraid to take off too much wood so I don't think I worked around that hinge fast enough
