Forged a hammer today
« on: May 03, 2021, 11:48:44 pm »
There's a fellow blacksmith here in town that makes smithing hammers among other things. I traded him a bow for a hammer with the caveat that I help make it. I was the striker, most was with a 8# short handle sledge took us a little over 2 hours from firing the forge to quench, all by hand. We had a ton of fun. Was tempering when I left

I'd be running short of CBD, Naproxyn, ice , and whiskey after 2 hours of intensive hammering! (f). Nice work!  I assume the handle hole was punched through hot metal?  I don't think the wife will allow a power hammer, so I need to find a smith already set up to work with!
