English Yew Warbow
« on: June 14, 2021, 05:26:36 am »
Just got a very challenging bow back to 110# @ 30.5"
It's English Yew, but oddly had a tiny bit of bug damage on the surface of the sapwood at one point (I've not seen that on UK Yew before).
It needs finishing, but it was a bit nerve wracking to get it back this far!
Here's video of it coming back on the tiller

Oh lordie! That knot gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Fascinating character in this one, sir! She's a wild looking bow.
Guns have triggers. Bicycles have wheels. Trees and bows have wooden limbs.

All of the above!  I would need a winch and crank to draw 110#!and a doctor to refit my shoulders!

Been following your progress on this tricky stave. Quite impressive work as always Del. Like Hawkdancer, I would definitely need a winch and crank. Maybe you could answer a question. When a bow is that heavy, how do you get it "shot-in" after tillering? Maybe it's not that important and it gets shot at whatever draw weight is manageable. Just curious. Thanks Del.

Not the best piece of wood so your skills are proven by making a silk purse from a sow's ear. Good job.

Wow Del, that’s a lot of weight and long draw with quite a wonky stave. Well done!
