48 inch board bow
« on: July 28, 2021, 11:47:28 pm »
This is not my bow, actually, it is my son’s. It’s his first finished complete and shooting bow. He wanted to try to make one out of a board and he wanted it short, so we found a good piece to work with. All work was done by him, I just helped him a bit with tiller advice. The string is twisted artificial sinew, which I showed him how to make. Has probably an inch of set after unstringing. Arrow was put together by him too. I have had to go back and tell him the better orientation of the fletchings, but he had a great time building it.

48” red oak board bow
3” handle
1.5” wide to mid limb then tapers to .5”.
20lbs at 20 inches, which is perfect for him he hasn’t built himself up to shooting heavier.

Sweet! :OK

I wanna see some unbraced and close-ups though!
Why must we make simple things so complicated?

Good job. I like kids with a sense of adventure. I’ve built 6 bows this summer for grandkids and neighbor kids. I make some Dow rod arrows to go with the bows. Cut to the length of tiller. Hopefully that will keep some adult from overdrawing them. Doesn’t always work. Some people will find a way to ruin it.
