Arvin’s second bow of the month entry
« on: September 10, 2021, 06:43:13 pm »
Ok I built this simple Simple Composite bow back last winter. It was for flight. Well I shot it at Bonneville. This bow will be entered on its merits only. Let the facts speak for the bow. No full draw pics with mountain sunset. No Lilly pond float. Just a simple bamboo backed Osage . This bow shot 260 yds and change with a 457 gr arrow. The fifty pound modern longbow record is 258 yds and change. That was a 21st century long bow. This may not be the fastest 50 # bow In the world but it holds its on in broadhead flight. It shot 337 yds in flight. The record is 350yds. This is all factual . Not a crono guess! We’ll see how it does? How did I get involved in flight archery? Well my wife could hit quarters at 25 yds I could not. However I got pretty good at bow building and could hit the earth every time. Then there was this old guy from California that kept dropping that bait in front of me to try flight shooting. This guy fletched the arrow I used to brake his record ! It’s a community of broad spectrum of people all with one goal to shoot an arrow farther than they ever have before. All happy for the new record no matter who broke it.  Competitive most certainly.  But you see the guy that just got his record broke by an other archer go up congratulate him or her  great new record. If it’s me Usually followed with ok it’s on . Always with a smile. I love my hobby and my sport. Would love to see more bowyers involved. Arvin

That was an excellent shot but iI will take exception to the chrono comments LOL, the chrono is still the best predictor of performance potential. Flight shooting is a sport where we go for the longest arrow that has a lot to do with the bow, the shooter, the arrow and the air. Chrono is just testing the bow.

Well Steve is it not what the bowyer did in making the bow , tuning the bow , and shooting bow that makes flight archery what we do. 😁😁😁how good was that shot? 😁😁😁 I have been working at your records for 5 years now. Just saying. It has not been easy. Arvin

I know that Arvin and you have done and continue to do a fantastic job. I am just one of those people who support the guys who like to chrono bows. For the most part I quit using a chrono quite a few years ago. I pull it out now and then. But I think it is an important tool for guys chasing performance.

It looks to me like you could shave a few grammes off the tips. :)
Those are some great distances! Well done :)

Arvin you were shooting a 9.14 gpp arrow. Maybe you ,or Badger could convert that to fps at 9 feet. Just curious.

Bassman I can’t but what Steve said is true about release and wind and arrow. Tuning a flight bow is a bit different when it comes to braking records. A chrono catches the arrow right out of the bow . I can shoot it thru a chrono when I get home but guessing I would say in the mid 180s . I use a two finger release with 50 pound flight bows. Bowanarrow these hooks are working now. Not much left on the tips.
