Missouri Ozarks doe
« on: October 17, 2021, 10:13:56 pm »
A friend of mine Chad Strain in central Missouri double lunged a nice doe today with a winged elm I made for him last summer. She went 60 yards and collapsed.

Bow.

You bet.He shot her in his traditional native garb.Don't have a picture of that but it includes brain tan buckskin leggins/a cloth shirt and a scarf. He has a Cherrokee background. He can speak fluid Cherrokee.Taught me a few of his native words also.
I'll try to get him to send a picture of him in his traditional garb also.
It's tough getting one of those big woods deer.I knew he'd put the bow to good use.He said a doe came cruising by and stopped to within 5 yards but behind a red cedar.Figure it gave him time to get set.It stepped out and he slam dunked her with a centershot pass through the ribs double lunging her at 10 yards.Good finish to a successful hunt.He brain tans his own hides himself too.
We've got a lot in common.

Congratulations to your buddy Ed. Always a good feeling when someone is successful with a bow you crafted for them.

Here's a picture of him wearing his traditional Cherrokee native garment while hunting and shooting this deer.

Heard from my buddy in the Ozarks. His daughter got a deer and he got another one too. Both with a rifle.Had some close calls with the bow earlier though.
I can't believe they let residents shoot deer with the .223 in Missouri.I'd be trying for head shots if that was that way in Iowa.
I imagine I might talk to him at Mo Jam this year.
