How many of you can say they have this problem?
« on: December 08, 2021, 01:27:18 pm »
The deer are ridiculously brave this year.  Probably someone in the community is hand feeding them...again!!!

Yesterday's practice session was attended by 3 bucks, 6 doe, and 4 fawn/yearlings.  The big buck stinks so bad from wallowing in his own filth for the rut,  that I generally smell him before I see him.  Awfully brave of this herd considering the reasons why I'm shooting in the first place.

Anyway, the doe and yearlings were particularly curious about the arrows.  I'd loose one and they'd come over to the target to investigate.   I'd shoo them off and they'd be right back at it on the next shot.  Sometimes I can get 2 shots off before getting the opportunity tell the little devil on my shoulder that neither Game and Fish or Animal Control will buy my excuse that the deer stuck it's head in to the flight path of my arrow.

I've been hoping the mountain lion I caught on my security camera a few days ago would thin the population.  Will see if I can figure out how to post the video of him.

Here's the mountain lion.

Not a whole lot of action in the video, but it does add a new level of excitement to taking the dog out to pee at night.

What do you think the extra metal bumpers on SUVs are for? >:D

Seriously though, just wait till that guy in the back sheds his antlers.

Yep.  It's almost too much temptation to bear, ain't it?  ha ha ha

This was sooo funny....

I took a pair of antlers out on the deck and started rattling them.

The young buck got real nervous and the big ole buck got up and started getting all agressive on the other side of rhe fence.

The little buck was planning an escape route while the big buck was looking for a spot on the neighbors fence to jump over and rip him a new one.

Then from around the corner another young buck came to see what the excitement was...I could almost read his curious expression..."hey guys, what's going on?"

The big buck noticed him turned on him full bore and chased him halfway thru the neighborhood before I lost sight.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great pictures, gentlemen.

I've had to shoo deer and other wildlife off of shooting ranges (firearms, that is) a number of times. The gunfire didn't bother them and they were completely unconcerned about the people wandering around. Never had them this comfortable with us out in the yard doing things, though. Very entertaining.

I agree, great pictures.  For me, the worst temptation is when my wife's cat gets between me and my target.  (I'm not a cat person...although her fur sure would make a beautiful sporran or possibles bag)

Yep, I avoid the temptation.  But man, if I didn't love my wife so much...   (SH)

I had two identical kittens years ago, always underfoot. I would threaten to kick their butts so hard I could wear them as house shoes.

As for these deer. Were have a state park nearby where deer run free and protected. I think they study them.
Its cool to watch huge herds of deer being led by dominant males or in some cases dominant females running in orderly formation without a care in the world.
Several aquaintances have deer guests that regularly show up in their yards like this. The kids love them and most family dogs quickly learn to tolerate them.

One guy I knew had a realistic cast iron deer in his yard. one day some yahoo passing in a pickup threw on his brakes and jumped out firing several shots at the statue. He was no doubt amazed when it didn't react. My friend stuck his rifle out the window and fired off several shots scaring the nimrod off.
