Finely finished
« on: December 31, 2021, 10:57:15 am »
Finely got my Sturgeon Skin Osage finished, it got it's Madden trip to the woods yesterday, no deer but it wasn't the bows fault. :) I guess you would have to call this a backed bow, the sturgeon skin is as good as any rawhide I have seen, maybe even better. This one really didn't need the protection but the skins do look good. It is kind of short for me but all the wood i had to work with. 57 inches n-n 47@26. smooth to shoot, no stack and no shock. Here are a few pictures.

Looks great Pappy. Might be the fanciest bow I’ve seen you finish. Would love to get some of those sturgeon skins someday.

That full draw looks good to. I’m sure it could pull a couple more inches if it had to and that’s always nice to know.

Should hold up really well.

That's one handsome bow!
I'm not much of a one for backings, but that looks great.

Beautiful bow Pappy. Those skins turned out great. I agree about the skins being comparable to rawhide.

Thanks guys, means a lot from some of the best bow builders I know. I am not usually a fancy type guy or backing guy either Del but the skins were a gift and I just had to use them and they fit this bow prefect , yes Jim kind of fishy  ;) :) :) and yes BJ I had it out to 28 just for reassurance, but 28 is an AMO standard , not particular useful for self bows at least not for me, I figure them for what ever they are going to be draw. Seems everyone post bows at 28 now days but I know very few that draw that and i have measured and watched hundreds shoot. ;)  I had it in the wood yesterday Brad but no cigar, I think the bow will do it's part if the deer and me will do ours.  :) I plan on getting it out some more this next week if the weather will get a little better, really stormy here for the next few days, we have a week left so we will see if I can make it happen.  :-\ Thanks again all and Happy New Year !!!!!!!
