E Woodland Ipe

The illustration is the famous 1590 Dutch engraving based on a drawing by British explorer John White. Shows a native of Virginia with a longbow.  The bow has always been thought to seem more like an English longbow - still around at that time - with its rounded limbs and full handle-to-tip taper. I did a sort of repro, using Ipe (Brazilian) laminated with bamboo., made more like an eastern Woodland bow. Flat and even width out until about a foot from tips Mine, 71" long, draws 70 pounds at 27".   My son modeling and mugging

Great to see you back, Dave.
 Nice bow. The tiller looks good, maybe a bit stiff at the tips but nice nonetheless.

Thanks Pat.  If it gets pulled deeper - behind the ear, the tips bend out more,  So shallow because its so long maybe


This month is 20 year anniversary of starting my first bow.,   It broke

Too much clothing makes it hard to judge the tiller. (lol)  Fun reproduction!

Cool bow but I bet she has a thump! If you did another I'd copy the tiller of an elb - these are pretty much the same bow :) Little to no bend in the handle, bend increasing towards the tips.

I appreciate the tiller comments Pat and Narra.   I don't do a lot of LONG bows.   I may rework this, The ipe is easy to refinish.

The width from tip fade to tip fade is 1&1/8"  (28.5mm)
