Rawhide-Backed Static Osage
« on: February 17, 2022, 09:33:12 am »
I finished a 68” rawhide-backed osage static recurve back in August 2021. The bow has turned out to be one of my best shooting bows. I used whitetail rawhide to back the bow due to a couple knots and the thin osage rings. The rawhide is stained with Fiebings dark brown leather dye. The tip overlays are made from gaboon ebony.
I initially tillered the bow to ~35# at 20”, then heat treated and reflexed on my reflex form (pattern for the form came from BowEd…thanks Ed). The bow was allowed to rehydrate for a week prior to tillering out to 53# @ 28”. I finished the bow with six coats of Tru-Oil and a final coat of spar urethane.
The bow is very smooth and seems pretty fast compared to my other bows.  Hope you enjoy the photos. Will B.

Bill you are shooting the first arrow in the air, and the 2nd arrow down in the ground. ;D............. Nicely built bow.
