Pass Thru.
« on: February 21, 2022, 12:37:40 pm »
I really really like this arrow. I like the head. It’s really sharp and the shape looks like it would slide thru anything. Obsidian from glass buttes my cousin collected and I knapped.

Beautiful river cane shaft from supply trade with trapper Rob.

Wild turkey tail feathers and a two fletch.

This one is going in my quiver this hunting season, but until it does it’s going to be displayed in my man cave.

This arrow just plain makes me want to shoot something. It literally has “Pass Thru” written all over it.

Beautiful work BJ. That sure looks lethal. Hope you get a chance to use it next season.

That's almost too pretty to take out and get blood all over it.  Almost.   ;D

That’s a beauty! Really like how your pictures capture the edge, you can tell it’s scary sharp!
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short. Amen.

I knew someone was going to ask me that. And I can’t believe I didn’t weigh it.

I know it still has a nice FOC. I’m pretty sure it is slightly lighter than my usual points. It has a pretty stiff shaft just hand flexing so I left it pretty long. It’s 31 1/2 “ long. I didn’t build this one like I normally would have for hunting. I was originally going to give it to my daughter for her birthday but I have different one for her now.

Just from “feel“ and experience I think it will shoot nice from a 52 lbs bow with a narrow handle.

I do wish I had bareshafted with a target point first and then worked something up for this weight.

Sorry

That thing looks deadly.  Beautiful.  How do you practice with those?

Az normally I make a practice arrow and then remove its point and haft stone point slightly less weight. Between glue and sinew come in about same weight.

I don’t really “practice” with these stone points, but I do shoot them at least once to make sure they fly right. I use a couple pieces of 4” foam insulation. I leave about a foot space between the foam . They may pass thru but usually they are going pretty slow by then.  I’ve also used my black hole target but it pretty hard on my target and sometimes they are hard to pull out.

PS Rob I really like these river cane shafts I’m starting to get pretty low on them.

BJ I was wondering because I plan to hunt this year with stone points and I’m trying to figure out how to practice with it.  I guess I can weight the point and just add some tip weight to match.  Then remove the practice head and haft the stone point before I go hunting

Whatever arrow(s) you plan to hunt should be shot with the point you intend to hunt with. I have a rubberized foam target I shoot hafted points into. Some use a sand pile or straw bails.
