I tested one of my bamboo-backed, horn-bellied bows. It’s similar to the 98# @ 28" version, but this one is only 70# @ 28", with the same materials and measurements. The arrow weight was 586 grains (8.37 grains per pound), and the speed was 197 fps! The bow was still fresh, but even so, I really like that kind of arrow speed! Shot with a shooting machine, witnessed by my friend.

Thank you Tuomo - very interesting - one more for my records! The air is getting thin towards 200fps - even with 8gpp  :)

You are certainly on the razor thin edge of performance. Those are some impressive numbers. To get those speeds, have you been able to isolate anything that is slowing you down?

   Your numbers fall right in line with well-made fast bows. I have always tested at 10 grains per pound, going to 8 grains per pound, you would add about 15 or 16 ft per second. This would put you between 185 and 188, which is very good.
