New England Primitive Skiils Gathering pictures
« on: June 21, 2008, 02:12:36 pm »
I am really sorry it took this long to get these up, but here are a few shots I took at the event, which was this past June 7th and 8th. Jamie and the gang from Algonquin Archers in Woodbury, Connecticut hosted the event, and it was all you could want. They had not only bow building but classes taught by the staff of Maine Primitive Skills School in basket making, fire making, wildlife and nature awareness workshops, edible plants too. They had a 3D course, sting making, net making, and to top it all off, an amazing all-venison feast Saturday evening. Jamie acted as chef, and it was satisfying!

If any of you can make it next year, I highly recommend it. It was very hot that weekend, over 90, but no one seemed to mind the heat, and the day just flew by.

What follows are random shots I took. I have more photos on film in the lab right now, and I am just finishing up an article for PA on the event.

Basket making was very popular with kids as well as adults, as you can see.

Here is the Primitive Archer member contingent. Would you like to meet these guys in a dark ally?

Rick is teaching fire making, and the second is, left to right, myself, Brokenock (Dave), Jamie, and Rick.

Here is the Maine school's director's daughter. She was excited to have her picture up here - "I'm going to be famous" she kept saying after we told her she was, well, going to be famous. She was a very talented frog catcher, too, besides mud bather.

Finally, Jamie as chef. The venison was fantastic, and thanks again, Jamie, and the rest of your club.

BTW, I dont think I mentioned that all the knapping for the awards was Jamie's work.

Looks like Jamie and the "boys" did a good job. Connecticut is my home state and next year hope to camp out primitive. See you soon.

Some of us aren't Yankees at all, but transplanted westerners (of course, it wasn't my party, either :) ). Jamie and his club did a great job at this event, just as they did last year, and if you can attend this event, it is well worth it. Great food, good fellowship, tons of primitive skills to learn and do, and a site that is just really pretty on the eyes.
