gator skin as a backing?

just came across this idea. dose anyone know if it is possible?

Never tried it but i think it would be possible, isn't it pretty tough stuff though?

I have seen Carp skin used so I think Gar skin would work.

 It is too thick and heavy unless you use the belly side. And it is not light either.

oh well. it would look realy cool. someone has a tarpon backed or something on here and it has like little scaly points going down the back of the bow. realy cool. i wish i could do it with gator.

yup working on getting a connection around here for a couple of them. ;)

a friend of mine knows a guy that is a member of one of the local tribes here and they can catch as many as they want. the rest of us get one a year with special permit :'(

Yep...and there is good reason for the Permits too....these Fish are slow growers and even slower Breeders...and over fishing is devastating to their survival.....These Prehistoric Beauties live long and grow slow....Unfortunately, the sturgeon is exceptionally vulnerable to overfishing...... largely because of its slow reproductive cycle......... The female requires more than 20 years to mature........ and then it spawns only every four to six years during its 50-year lifespan......I have swam with them in the Shallows by Big Bay in Upper Michigan....these are Noble Fish to watch and admire...

we used to snorkle in th emississippi when i was a kid and we would occasionaly see them below the dam.
