"Arkansas Toothpick"
« on: September 06, 2008, 02:57:32 pm »
I built this osage bow, in trade, for a dozen, good ,Arkansas osage logs, which I can get this winter.I have built about a dozen bows from wood from this same place, and it's all been great. This bow has straight grain side to side, but one big character lump front to back in the top limb right in the fade.It was a fairly difficult bow to tiller due to the limbs being on different planes,(about one inch difference),but,it made a very good shooter.

"Arkansas Toothpick", 65 15/16"tip to tip,64 5/8" nock to nock
1 1/4" @fades tapering to 7/16" tips
53#@ 28", Timber rattler grip,10 coats tru-oil

That is a nice one Pete! Bet that was more difficult to tiller "which looks great". Looking at it braced, would have thrown me for a little bit of a loop :).

Thanks much fellas.I have the sister stave ,with the same front to back hump.It will be a heavier bow,but similar.Pat, the snakeskin handle is very comfortable.I glued it to a piece of leather, punched holes, wrapped and stitched it on.then put enough coats of spar varnish to fill in the gaps in the de-scaled skin. It(the spar varnish) is very durable and smooth. Thanks again,God Bless
