Bamboo Hex Arrows Are Done !!
« on: October 06, 2008, 11:20:49 am »
Well guys, it's been a long time but I fineally got them done. The pictures are not great, but you get a chance to see what they look like.

I wraped the nocks on these only because they will be shot with a fast flight string. Splined osage self nocks normaly don't need to be wraped.

Here is a couple more.

I hope you guys like them.

Beautiful arrows as always, Nick. Not quite something you can just knock out in a weekend though. ;)    Pat

those look great! What kind of weight did you wind up with for the finished arrow?

Great looking bunch of arrows. How do they shoot?  Justin

I got a question in a PM about spine with these arrows. The answer is simple, we don't worry about spine with natural bamboo because it has a full length taper and it seems to work reall well with all kinds of bows. I treat the hex shafts the same way and give them a 22 inch taper. The rest of the shaft I leave alone so I can control the weight.

For those that want to know why I went through the trouble of making these is simple also.....SPINE! A few years ago some guys tried to make shafts by turning bamboo flooring. They worked about as good as a wet noodle. By glueing the bamboo into a hex shape, the power fibers are aranged around the whole diameter of the shaft and it stifens them up.

In the next couple of days I will be testing them and I will let everyone know how well they perform. Glad you guys like them.

Beautiful arrows! I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to hunt with them though...too pretty and time consuming to end up bloody and potentially broken. Very nice! :)
