I tried a maple backed jatoba once, and it broke... totally my fault, not the wood. Jatoba has a really beautiful reddish color. A well done bow, all around. Have fun shooting it! Can you guys bow hunt in Germany?

Bowhunting is not allowed in Germany. So we shoot at 3D-Targets.

thanks guys! - yes, i think the hickory/jatoba combo worked really well; jatoba is a nice wood to work with, it's dust doesn't bug you and it's easy to achieve a nice smooth surface.
badger: it was my first personal experience with jatoba, we didn't have a problem with chrysals. but the bow is not build to the extreme.
i know of one guy who had a problem with jatoba chrysals but that was in a hinge!

medicinewheel.......wow........i'm speechless.  That is a display of artisan-ship we don't get to see every day.  Remember, an artisan makes things of use, not art.  Bravo!!

Now, the question, and perhaps i should start a new thread: 

No one ever seems to post hickory/hickory bows.    I would like to try this......one thick and one thin slice of hickory, to "average" some of the grain issues and allow some reflex to be glued in with no heat treating.   any feedback , anyone?

well piper, i guess the reason for that is hickory is not as good in compression as it is in tension.
i've done hickory/hickory - and i'm sure it's been done a lot, but it's not a very good combination.

Length: Blade 19cm (7,5"); overall 31cm (12,2")
I bought it czech repiblic in 1995.

The sheath was made by a czech-saddler and is chased.

 Very nice bow Frank, and the knife is neat as well,  I did a bamboo backed Jatoba once that was an R/D profile but I didn't thin the boo enough and overpowered the Jatoba. Still shoots but developed some chrysals
