...  I did a bamboo backed Jatoba once that was an R/D profile but I didn't thin the boo enough and overpowered the Jatoba. Still shoots but developed some chrysals

yes, i believe hickory is the better choise for a backing with jatoba!
as i mentioned above the combo worked well in this bow here.
the bow has a really nice peformance and buggi shoots her well!
in general i believe with these south-american woods you ought to look for uncurled boards; i had ipé chrysaling in a curl!
