Ash shaft finish...?
« on: October 31, 2008, 11:15:48 pm »
Just got a dozen tapered ash shafts from The Nocking Point and I'm wondering what a good finish might be? I'm thinking wipe them with some Watco oil stain then maybe some tru oil finish to seal them. Don't have a dip tube so need to keep it simple and without laquer.
Any ideas...?

I just made some arrows from ash.  I used a water base aniline dye, then used Waterlox brand tung oil.  I use it quite a bit on arrows it is durable yet not shiny.

dont use any type of heavy build up for a finish . like gasket laquer or poly. when ash needs a lot of straightening it requires heat . a heavy finish will melt. tung is great like said. ive soaked them in linseed oil but it brings the weight up a lot. fat is my choice. peace
