Finished my first bow !!
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:00:03 pm »
Well, my first bow is finished and shooting well. As I reported in a recent post, George was a tremendous help! The bow is a white oak board bow, made for my daughter. It finished at 32# @ 23", 64" long and is burlap backed. Ended with about 1 3/4" follow. She shot some targets tonight with good success. Should be a squirrel menace starting this weekend! I am trying to post pictures but don't know if I can. The last picture is my "sigature" which, I believe reads "father to Daughter" at least loosley in Cherokee.

That full-draw pic is a CLASSIC.........good form, great (young) archer, perfectly tillered bow, appropriate quiver.....if there's somebody making up an archery calendar that should be in it.

And making a bow for your child is a good thing.  When my kids were that age we fished, early and often and it was great fun and bonding time.  If we had been into archery then, it would have served the same function.

Guys like you give us all hope for the future!  piper

Very nice, not only for a first timer!
Always tricky to judge curvature from bows held somewhat angled in the picture, but it seems here the upper limb bends too much and the lower has a free ride, simply because the bow is gripped too far towards the lower limb.
I would not know how to grip the bow because the handle wrapping seems to be very long. I would rework it for a repeatable grip!

Thak you all for the kind words. Medicinewheel, you are right, the handle cover is a little long. I did that on porpose so the upper section can be used as the strike plate. However, she is holding quite low. We are planning to mark it for consistant grip and serve and mark the nocking point as soon as we make the final string for this bow.
