first kill of the season
« on: September 25, 2009, 09:03:24 PM »
i shot this one and another the day before (no picture of the first one).  but its a ruffed grouse i shot with my osage selfy cane arrows and trade points....was out looking for deer both times but these little buggers are great fun and eating.  we cooked them and some sharptails (shotgun kills) up with some noodles for lunch under a nice cool quaken aspen cooly.  made for a right fine day of hunting....but no deer for me yet.- Ryan

Good shootin'. Grouse season won't be open here for another three weeks. Those guys sure are good eatin', one of my favorite wild meats. We haven't had many grouse at all the last couple years, I guess they're on the low end of their cycle here.

Hey Ryan  Good shooting. You made the move !  Where are you living now ?  I am in the process of moving back down to eastern Washington from Alaska. All those grouse boil up with rice real well too. good luck with the deer.  '  Frank

I am a taxidermist and figured i should mount it but it was kinda and imature bird and the other was pretty rough after the broadhead ripped through but i did save the tail to fan out like a turkey tail.
