My new hunting bow for this year
« on: November 22, 2009, 01:51:27 pm »
Here is my main bow that I have been hunting with this year. It is an Osage selfbow. It is 66" long. It is 1-1/2" wide at the fades and tapers to 7-16" wide at the tips. It is 45lbs. at 28". It has Diamondback rattlesnake skins and Gabon Ebony overlay tips. It came out a little lighter than I wanted because I took a little to much wood out of the top snakey limb. So I had to scrape the bottom limb to even it up. Dean

That is a Very good looking bow.  Tiller looks outstanding and whatever finish you used really made those skins look nice.

Thanks for the nice compliments guys. I cut this log last winter and it was straight as an arrow. When I started splitting it this is what came out of it. You just can't tell by looking at a full log how the grain is going to run until you start splitting it. Every stave that came out of that straight log had this type of grain. You could lay every stave out of this log side by side and they all looked the same. In fact there are about three other staves floating around out there in the U.S.A from this same log and I would really like to see the bows that they will become. Brock,Ted, and Joe let's see them on here when you get them done. These guys do visit this site. Dean
