Grapevine?
« on: January 17, 2010, 02:00:49 am »
Ok, well I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately but I've got another.  Has anyone ever tried a bow out of wild grapevine??  I decided to cut some the other day just to see what it looked like.  It split easy enough and appears at first look to be good in tension, although it was really wet.  I force dried a small piece in the toaster oven and it still seemed fairly tension strong.  Funny when it dries a little, pushed a bunch of worm shaped clear threads out the end of it,  kinda had an almost jello feel to it.  Anyway, just curious as I am always on the look out for something new to me.  Thanks!

I would think that grapevine would be a quite a bit too limber for bow making, but you never know til you try it, I guess.

I don't know about a bow, but the inner bark makes really great tinder for firemaking.
