After losing three that I loved this last week, this morning I got to go before the county planning and zoning commissioners to address appeals to the conditional use permit we received for building our Black Hills Raptor Center facility.  The two persons appealing the permits had four points to discuss and I was utterly prepared to answer all four.  The one deferred to the regulations regarding wastewater treatment when it was made clear to her by the commissioners that "conditional" use means we meet conditions...and proper waste water treatment is one of those conditions.

The other guy was a NIMBY.  Not In My Back Yard!  His three points were exaggerated to the point of being ridiculous.  We answered those three points, but he got up and began speaking at length, ballooning his claims to cartoonish levels.  His claims were that we were opening a tourist attraction that would accommodate tens of thousands of visitors and a never ending train of traffic around the clock, 24/7.  We again addressed answers to his claims.  Thank God for smart phones, I pulled up the federal regulations that our organization works under explaining that there are absolutely no commercial uses of these birds that are acceptable under their guidelines and that revocation of permits is in the cards for anyone that forgets that!  He leapt to his feet and began shouting over me until the commissioners advised he sit or be escorted out.

Further discussion was pretty brief and to the point between the five commissioners with a few questions to me for clarification. The vote came in 3/2 in our favor.

At this point, the highly emotionally charged future neighbor has one choice left and that is to hire an attorney and pay him to look for legal grounds to sue the commissioners.  Not us, we don't enforce the regs, the commissioners do.  We make the next step with filing for water rights and the perc tests for the septic system.  That will be the real hurdle, making sure we there is a septic system that will properly protect the ground water in the area.

But it is forward momentum and I am glad to see it happening again. So. Yeah. Life is good.

JW:  To bad your neighbor is too stupid to realize that if he helped you with the waste water effort instead of over the top opposition the raptor center would be a very wonderful place to visit.  Your other message concerning your beautiful owl friend brought back some very sad memories when our cockatiel died.  Joe

I have already called Susan up in Cody to be on the lookout for the right great horned owl to replace Icarus.  They still make good chicken in that bar downtown?

JW:  Funny, I just talked to Susan in the checkout lane at Albertsons.  She is "out there"!  She knows her birds!  Joe

Out there? Joe, she's never been "in here" in her life!  A true Western icon, independent to the core, tough as nails, hard headed in the extreme, and not a bad shot with a rifle!

Glad things are looking better JW, You been in my thoughts and prayers the last few days, praying life would make a good turn for you, sometimes it is tough for sure but always good. ;) On another note, got my knife scales sanded down yesterday and that Splatted Hickory is beautiful, glad I saved it from the fire. :) Also got my Osage out to 48@ 24 and still looking good so far. I probably won't get any time in the shop today, I had another deer given to me that a friend didn't want and need to get it cut and wrapped this evening, :) got to love friends like that, he ask me if I wanted it and I replayed "Mother Jude never raised such a foolish child " OF COURSE I DO  ;) :). I sometimes wonder if my buddies think I am getting old and need help filling the freezer, ;) either way I love it. ;)

Someone posted a recipe to my Facebook page that involves panfrying cabbage, home made egg noodles, and sausage.  I saw that and thought of a 50/50 venison and pork sausage I tried last year.  I think it is a match made in heaven and hope to convert at least one of my two doe tags into hanging meat. But it may take up to a month to a month and a half before I get that done.  I would have taken a offer like that about as fast as you did, Pappy.

You would have to be crazy to turn down free venison. JW the best sausage i had was bear, pork and venison with a spicy seasoning blend. Mam o man that was good

I hear ya JW, I never turn one down, usually have at least 3 or 4 given to me each year. I love processing them anyway and the meat is a big plus around Twin Oaks with all the starving guys [or seem to be starving ] ::)  that hang out there. ;) :) Looks like rain and a cold front coming through today, I sure hope so and maybe cool things down a bit and get rid of the skeeters. :)

Friday and the weather has finely taken a change for the better, cooler all weekend. We didn't get the rain yesterday they said we would and very much needed but at least it has cooled down. I got my deer meat all processed/wrapped and put away yesterday and plan on some hunting this evening. I have my traveling vet coming today at noon to FIX sister, then at least if she runs off I won't have to worry about her coming home knocked up. ;) :) Don't want anymore Beagles, not even mixed. ??? I plan on a little shop work on my knife/Osage bow and a new walking stick I am making for the owner of our company's son. Also it's time to blow and burn leaves and clean the gutters at the cabin, love this time of year but also hate it. Always some clean up to do around the cabin until all the leaves fall. Hope yall have a good one also. ;) Life is Good. :)

Pappy, good luck this weekend.  Be careful with the leaf clean up. You know what can happen.  Looking forward to getting down there, only a couple of more weeks to go.  Tell anyone who shows up this weekend I say Hey.

Hope the arrows fly well this weekend Pappy.

I'm stuck having what I hope is my first and only yard sale this weekend but I'll be wishing I was up at the cabin where it's 60 degrees out and sunny. Meh.
