Grumley style Deerslayer

Here's a Grumley style bow I made a while back. It's made of 12 pieces of wood. Quite the jigsaw puzzle come to think of it.

  I've always liked that style of bow. But I never could decide if all that extra weight at the tips hurt performance. Is that Ipe?

No, It's Bulletwood. The extra weight has to decrease performance somewhat but in a hunting situation it's splitting hairs.
 You can make the tips from much lighter wood though.
 However when this bow sends a heavy arrow crashing into the target at 20 yards you tend to not be worried about needle tips.
 I will finesse them down quite a bit but once I start shooting a bow I will often put that off (sometimes for years) if the bow makes me happy.

Spliced Bulletwood billets, Ipe Handle, v- spliced in Elm recurves, Bulletwood underlays and brush nocks, Hickory backing with rawhide on top of that.
 62" ntn.
 You can see the multiple glue lines in the tip picture.
