A good pipe

OK, finally got a chance to take some pics. Here is a pipe I made in '04...made of mesquite heartwood. The stem is a glue-up of two pieces with a channel cut with a table saw (notice the square opening).
Took me three tries and lots of wood shavings to get it right. After I broke it in, I burned some runes into it with a fancy wood burning tool. I smoke mild tobacco, not "stuff", in case you're wondering. ;)

Cool looking pipe Jack, Since this thread started I have been following landscaper around and inspecting the bushed they are pulling up for sources of burl. I scored today, they were chopping down a pepper tree that had some nice burl on it. Not much character but very solid looking. Now I just have to wait for it to dry.
