Red Oak Bow For My Sinew Guy
« on: March 07, 2010, 10:32:59 PM »
The guy that gives me my sinew asked me to make him a bow.  Here it is.  It is 66 inches NtN, 1.75 inches wide at the fades for a few inches then tapering to 3/8ths inch nocks. 60lbs @ 29 inches.   i used chocolate brown Rit dye  fading into black Rit dye and 5 coats of tru oil.  It's not my best work so far but it shoots pretty fast I guess. This was my first right handed bow I have ever made.  I am drawing it in the photo left handed though... It hurts my left wrist to draw right handed now. Thanks for looking!   :)

Here's a pic of about HALF the sinew this guy gave me this year.  He saved me the legs and me and my buddy Snakeman cut it all out and split it.  Heck the least I could do is make the guy a bow right?

Sounds Like a more than fair trade on your part ;D  Nice bow though, I'm sure he'll like it.

That is a gorgeous bow.

I'm getting ready to put some finish on a red oak bow, and I am blatantly steeling your color scheme.

Very nice!

i'm working on a red oak now. Trying to do something penobscot ( with a lot of help from my friends at pa ). Especially El D. Tons of knowledge here! Nice bow! For a survivalist...I have learned sooooooo much here. Again, great bow. I hope I can come close and send pics I can be proud of...

Looks good Josh I also gave my sinew guy a bow this year, so far he has saved me about 1500 backstrap sinews :)

thanks for the kind words everyone!  Now if I can just get my buddy Snakeman to finish his arrows I can give this one away...  :-\
