Tiller check Elm

Hi!

I think it's something weird about the bottom limb, left in the pics. It's about 1,5 oz heavier than the top (if I figured it out correctly..). Somehow it needs to be that much heavier (or thicker). It had a big deflex spot 3" from the fades, I took out some of it with heat. Otherwise the side profile is the way the stave grew, or dried.

The heartwood of the stave was sick or rotten in some way, maybe that Elm disease. It's Wych Elm.

It's about 2,5 oz heavy on the Mass principle

Tbod your full draw looks pretty darn good to me. My opinion is it might be just a little stiff right out of the fades on the right limb. But it looks like your handle area is set in a little so it may be o.k. Dean

Full draw shot looks great, the previous pic looked a bit like it was working a bit hard near the handle on the left limb. If you look just above the board, where the black background suddenly becomes the green of a bush, just below that point.
But like I said looks great on the full draw. Sometimes features of the stave can confuse the picture.

I just had another look at the stave, in the top pic, and yeah, I think there's a natural dip there.
I think you've got it nailed!

Dean Thanks! Yeah it has about 0,5" set back in the handle, also the handle bends a tiny little bit.

Del Thanks! Yeah it has natural dip or deflex spot there which I flattened out some, but not all.

What confuses me is the thickness that the left limb needs to have not to bee weaker then the right. I might be imaging but it feels like the top and bottom limb have different wood qualites. Like the top is Elm and the bottom is Birch or something..

The mystery of wood, I love it! :D
