my new small steel knives
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:39:50 pm »
First, a blade made by Wolfsongforge from this forum. A steel clovis of 1080. He carved the flake scars, then tempered and put on a cool patina. I wanted to use it as a knife, but I wnated to have a "traditional" looking handle.. so i made it look like a dart foreshaft. I JB welded the blade to a piece of lignum vitae (ironwood) and then used spruce pitch and sinew to finish it. The sheath is pronghorn , which i flattened after boiling an hour. Thanks wolfsongforge for taking on the challenge of replicating this point- he based it on a fenn cache clovis and it is totally bombproof and the patina which i think is done with various gun bluing is awesome. If they ever clone a mammoth , I'm puttin' this on a dart!

also i recently made this other one...
on the far right of this photo- no sheath yet.
It's a damascus steel blade about 2 inches long. The handle is Mt. Mahoghany from Glass Buttes.
Also in the photo are other knives i made- one with a knapped  "g'day-cite" blade and water buffalo horn handle and sheath.
And another small steel knife with pronghorn handle and sheath.
