i was at the local Atwoods(large farm supply store), and i happened upon the dowels.  i always like to look through them, no matter were i am, looking for oak dowels.   but, i found these very dark colored shafts.  the rings are very close on them.  i meant to spine them real quick, but i neglected that so far.  they seem pretty dense.

just a guess birch heart wood . maybe something overseas

aero86:
well it was "made in malaysia"

It might be pretty hard to tell what wood it is but if they make good arrows who cares what it is called.  ;D  Call it arrow wood!  ;)

aero86:
ill see what happens.  ill spine the few out and weigh the shafts as well tomorrow
