Is there any advantage to prestressing  burlap like you do silk.  An how bad a grain flaw will it protect as compared to sinew

I don't think there is any advantage to prestressing burlap. Sinew is much better at keeping the bow together. But if it is that bad consider another using another stave. Jawge

I have never use Burlap but I will say like Jawges I use any backing as insurance,if it is a
case where I know pretty sure it won't hold without it,I get another piece of wood.  :)

The one bow I burlapped proved to me that the material is too thick for the benefit.  A thinner material, llike brown sack paper would be strong without the weight.

deer raw hide will hold strong but if the limb has lost the supporting wood because the bow was made straight from a stave that wasn't, it pretty much it going to break at a sharp angle . That's what has always happened to me and all of a sudden like kind of brake
