sealing a butcherblock
skyarrow:
whats a good sealant for homemade butcher blocks
bryan irwin:
I seal mine with goerges club house wax it's bee's wax got it at woodcraft store. it's for sealing cutting boards and bowls.
El Destructo:
Sterling...the best that I have found is a "Food Grade" Mineral Oil...or any Unscented Mineral Oil will work...wash the Board good with Soapy Water....Rinse...Use White Vinegar on it to Sterilize it...dry it good...then liberally rub in the Mineral Oil...let it sit 15-20 minutes...then wipe off the Excess...that simple...that's the way I was taught from an Old Italian in a very upscale restaurant back Home
mullet:
Yep, what Mike said. I asked the wife. She was a meat wrapper and said that was dead on.
madcrow:
I use salad bowl finish from GeneraL Finishes on all the bowls I turn, but that mineral oil sounds even better. Mine says that it is non toxic when cured.
