ELB for an English Lady
« on: January 17, 2011, 06:40:56 am »
This Yew was cut in Feb last year it has particularly fine dark grain but was warped in every possible direction (but no twist) and it has a couple of checks (visible in one of the pics).
It took all my experience and some tricks I've learned from you guys over the year to convince it that it wanted to be a bow.
I though I'd give it a present of two siver rivets through the top nock to show I loved it.
Stats:- 40# @ 28" 66.75"ntn, overall length, same as the Lady's height.
Width x depth at grip 1 1/8" x 7/8"
width x depth at tip 1/2" x 1/2"
Shoots at 147 fps (9.1grn/pound arrow, but could do with a slightly heavier point)
Less chat more pics...

Hope you like it.

Tips are Waterbuffalo horn, if you polish it enough it looks just like black plastic. >:D
I've just added the full draw & braced pic.

That is gorgeous.  Very very nice work.  Those cracks and knots add character.  She should love it.

That sir, is an English long bow, in every sense of word. As an example of handcrafted yew long bows, to my taste it is perfect.

Thanks everyone, high praise indeed from you guys.  ;D
Do you guys come down with a bit of a bump when you finally finish one which you've been working on for months? I'll probably take a week out before I start on the next one... well maybe a day or two ;).

Very nicely done, Del Gato!   I love a simple yew bow. Even if it is a lady's bow!  ;D

Wow that is one classy looking piece of wood there. Very nice. The holes in the tips look great.
One thing though. ---That is the ugliest English lady I have ever seen :o :o ;D
