The Classic (Not for BOM)

Came home for the weekend and wanted to pump out a bow so I went to homedepot and the first board I saw had perfect grain. Finished this one in less than 24 hours. Just a classic red oak board bow, made so I had something to work on my shooting form since I'm terrible. 73" ntn, 10" handle, 1.5" to mid limb tapering to 3/8" nocks, 1.5" of set, and 35#@28". Came in right at 18oz which I believe is correct according to the mass principle. I tried to design the handle in a way that I could get a more centered shot and be able flip the bow and I really like the way it turned out. Draws super smooth and shoots great. I like the bow as well. Cool idea for the handle. Might try that sometime. I only have one concern. Your handle fade on the belly of the bow ends at the same place as the side fades. I have found that If I do that, it can stress and break there. I like to extend the handle fade on the belly about 3/4 inch past the side fade. Just to make sure.
Anyway, it is a shooter, so well done.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Arrowind, please feel free to use the handle layout and refine it. I think it worked out pretty good so I'd be really happy to see that it does for others.

Bevan, I hear you loud and clear. I've done this with a lot of bows and haven't ever had a problem but I've also seen others who have had problems with it. I figure as long as I don't get it bending really close to the fades I'll be safe.

I learned the hard way on that one. Ha a nice black walnut built when I first started building. shot real nice for me. Let someone else draw it and pow. right at the fade.

Man, o man that handle is smooth... nice touch to an otherwise "classic design". Hard to beat a red oak board from HD if you want a quick bow.
