One eyed Elm bow, The Cyclop?
« on: May 07, 2011, 01:30:26 pm »
Just finished this ”sort of character” bow. Its wych Elm, 65” ntn, and about 55# @ 28”. Its centered around a large knot….and I think an obvious name would be ”One Eye” or ”Cyclop”. It has turned out to be a real pleasant shooter…not the fastest I have made, but somehow im more accurate with this than my former ”go-to” bow

I have heat treated the belly and painted the nocks (I really like the contrast….but thats a matter of taste). I also wanted to mirrow the bulprous shape of the handle in the nocks.

Pictures are in no particular order….but I hope they give you an idea of what she is like

Thanks for looking

i really like it as well, especially the unusual tips.  Have you thought of filling the eye with clear epoxy?  it'll maintain its look but it'll be smoother on the hand and doing so will prevent little bits from breaking off the rim.  Good bow.

I think I would call it Knot Head.  What ever you call it that is one good looking bow.

Hafta agree with all the others ^^

A great looking bow.  I love the back of it too.  The tips remind me of Bishop chess pieces ;D

Thanks all:-)

@billy bowmaker
I have thought of filling it, but changed my mind....partly because I cant feel the knot when I shoot and partly becuse im not sure I could pull it off and retain a primitive look.
There is definatly a risk of the knot rim sheeding some chips;-)....wont hurt the bow though.

@HatchA
Thanks mate...now a Bishop piece is ALL I see;-)

Cheers

Awesome.
Talking trees. What do trees have to talk about, hmm... except the consistency of squirrel droppings?

You're welcome, pal.  If it makes things any better (or more probably worse...), you could call the bow "The One-eyed Bishop" and see what springs to mind then...  :P >:D ;D

I can see you fitting a taxidery glass eye into the socket.  Hehehe, nice name, HatchA.

We have a winner...."One-eyed Bishop" or the danish equivalent "Enøjede Løber" (dont even try and pronounce that if you are not skandinavian;-)).

Anyways....ill be attending the next 3D field target event with this bow...no reason to keep her in the closet;-)

Cheers
