A Simple Stick - Pushing the limits of Red Oak (Pic Heavy)

Hey Everyone,

This is my latest project. My goal was to make a fast hard hitting bow for small game hunting and target shooting that only drew about 40#. This is what I came up with . It is a simple D bow with a built up leather handle. Tried my hand at a custom dye job that I think turned out real nice. Sadly the pictures don't really capture the true beauty.  :-\ . Finished with 9 coats of true oil. I realy like this design and plan to make another. It shoots real hard and fast for 41# and shoots right where I look. (Most of the time)  :)

Red Oak- 56" n2n

41#@27"

About 1 1/16" wide at the widest point to midlimb, the tapering sharply to 3/16" stiff tips! (I used back nocks since these were far to skinny for conventional nocks)

About 1" of just unbraced string follow and settles to about 3/4" of set.. Not bad for a short, extremly narrow and untempered red oak bow pulling nearly half it's length. Just shows what oak is really capable of.

Wow, thats crazy short for red oak. Any chrysal at all? I love the simpleness of the bow, very cool.

Wow! That bow is fantastic. Must be a super dense piece of red oak. Just an excellent example of pushing wood to its limits. Bet its super fast. Great job.

Thanks everyone. This bow is definitely my new favorite.

-pearl drums: Nope not a single chrysal to be found! I have shot the bow probably 300-400 times and it seems like it's going to hold up really well.

I've got to kid you a little bit,9 coats of True Oil is not a "Fast", ::), bow. But, I like short and it looks great! ;)
