Built my first knife in memory of my Grandpa....

I recently finished up this knife which is my first. It will always be very special to me because I have built this knife in memory of my grandfather. He has gone into a nursing home recently and is not expected to live that much longer after living 99 long tough years. A farmer and an outdoorsman, I know that this knife would make him happy. Anyways I was helping my relatives go through his house a couple months ago and was looking through the barn when I saw an old butchers knife lying on the floor that had its tip snapped of and its handles were rotting away. So I thought mabey I could make something out of it so that I could always remember my grandpa. This is what I came up with.

The knife is high carbon steel of some sort, the blade being 4" long and the OAL being around 8.5 inches. I reshaped the blade, removed the rust on the metal and reshaped the handle, putting on a new hard maple grip. I made a new simple sheath, and finished it off with some tru oil. Sharpened it up and this thing holds a razor edge. I hope to use this as my new hunting knife for many years to come. Thanks for looking and I'm sorry my crappy pics don't do it justice.

_Jon_:
Great job I like your whole idea about it.

bryan irwin:
nice looking knife you done a fine job on it.

JW_Halverson:
I can imagine the deer you skin with that knife will taste all the sweeter.

Ninety-nice years?  Imagine what all he has seen in his life, horse and buggy to cars and then to the moon and beyond.

Ifrit617:
Yep and he still has the brain left to recall it... Talking to him about those years way back there is one thing I will truly miss.
