Hunting selfbows of '11
snag:
My goal to be make a selfbow that I can hunt elk and deer with. I am working on an osage that I think will be the one for next year if it hits weight and tillers nicely. I'd love to see pictures of any of your selfbows that you plan on hunting with this year. Then, if successful, hopefully we can see a picture and hear a story about your hunt later on. I'm also curious as to the arrow, spine weight, head weight, etc. that you will be using.

This should be a really cool thread!!!

These are 2 bows I made for last years hunts. The recurve is 60"t/t osage static recurve and draws 48#@26". The long bow is yey bendy handle bow drawing 47#@26". Both selfbows.
Here is the yew bow in action on stand in GA...
This is the same osage static recurve as above but for this year I added an Argentine osage lam to the belly to reduce set and add weight. She now pulls 56#@26"...
The dark area in the center of the limb's belly is the Argentine osage lam I added...

I never did get a chance to take this one out turkey hunting this year, but I plan to make this my brush and close quarter hunting bow this fall for elk and deer. Vine maple, 58" ntn, 55# @ 27".

Heres my hunting setup for this year. 60# osage selfbow that I finished last year right after hunting season and some poplar arrows. The arrows average around 650 grains and shoot great out of this bow. I havent gotten into the flintnapping thing yet so my heads are 125 grain zwickeys.
