Osage and Timber Rattlers Done!
« on: October 14, 2011, 07:53:47 pm »
My boss at work has been wanting me to build him a bow from some of the wood I harvested on his property 2 years ago so I finally got around to making him one.  It is Osage, 64" NtN and 55# @ 28".
The Timber Rattlers are from a snake he killed 10 years ago while turkey hunting.  He skinned it and glued it to a board and it has been at his cabin ever since.  I had quite a hard time getting that snake off that board, but I think it turned out pretty nice.  I am hoping this bow will get him into hunting with traditional equipment.  I think it would be pretty cool if he got a deer this year with a bow made from wood from the same area.   :)
There is a deflexed place towards the top tip and a bunch of propeller twist that made tillering it very hard but I think I got it pretty close.  I put around 20 coats of Tru Oil finish on it.  Followed by 2 coats of Satin Poly to cut the shine down.  It ended up with around an inch of string follow which I wanted as it makes it easier to string and a less-stressed design which I feel is safer for giving to someone else.  Hope yall like it... Thanks for looking!   :) :) :)

Looks very cool Josh. I wouldnt know those skins were peeled off a board if you didnt say so. I like how you left the deflex and prop twist in the mix. Nice recipe, Id say it turned out well!

That is a sweet bow Josh. I'm sure he will be very pleased as that is well worth the wait. Great job on those skins. I love the snaky curves and the dips and dives. Well done! ;)

If I didn't know better, I would say that was a snake in your yard. but I suppose a snake would'nt be wearing a saddle. Great work.
