Sinew backed Hackberry bow (full draw added)
« on: November 07, 2011, 11:56:30 pm »
My second bow since getting back into making bows, though I kind of consider this my second honest attempt at making them. The wood is hackberry, and it's ever so lightly backed with sinew. It's 50". I do not have anything to measure the weight, but if I had a guess using my stepdaughter as a guide, it's around 50 lbs at 22". The handle is cowhide and red felt, wrapped with copper wiring. I'm pleased with it. It shoots hard, and I realized in practice that this arm of mine needed some work  ;D Hope you guys like.

That is a neat idea for the handle, looks good ;)
Is this bow making a sickness? or the cure...

Thanks. I was a little unsure about the copper wiring, but I liked it after it was put on. I think it will look even better as it gets worn and ages more.

Aha, I wondered if I'd find your bow pictures this morning.  Where's the money shot??  Full-draw my man, I need to see it.... :)  Looks great!

Nice bow Bryce H,
I'm really starting to like the shorties, All the good white woods in my area come short. Really cool the copper wire handle warp Looks like a early contact, trade thing. How high is your brace? Cant wait to see your next bow.., HighEagle

Thanks Robustus, Lane, and HighEagle.

HighEagle- The brace is right at 6". I try to do it right at the tip of my thumb like I'm giving a "thumbs up" gesture. To be honest, I am not sure if that's technically too much with this short of a bow or if brace height was more a matter of preference.

I saw it on facebook too, it's a great looking bow.  I don't think you need any bow building help my friend. ;D
