Now I've got this one I'm working on. I'm not as pleased with the deer as I had hoped so I may be starting over with it. Plus I'm terrible at getting the scale right.
Still got a lot of little details to go...probably have to finish it before I really know whether or not I like it.

At request I coated the antlers in antiqued white. They pop, now. I thought it might be too much but it looks pretty good. I also asked my neighbor to check out my scale and he says it's pretty damn close...he had some critiques about proportion but it looked good. I trust his judgment on it...I haven't seen a deer up close in nearly a decade I think.
I worked up a tree. The idea was an oak but it wanted to take on a twisted, gnarled and windswept mesquite shape so I went with that. I'll try again later and see if I can get closer to the intended shape. I still need to make a couple of tufts of grass or something...been toying with the idea of some yuccas.
I made some basic changes to the archer's posture. Had to adjust a little bit to compensate for the weight of the arrow. I tried to add a couple feathers to his head, but my feathers seem to only really work well when in a large group. Two looks like he's being a ninja. They're also too long. I'm going to trim them up and add a few touches of paint to see if I make them look like feathers.

You know... the more I look at those, the more I like 'em! I like the scene: Buck, tree, bowhunter. It's really cool, Mak. I know you were trading them earlier this summer. Interested in a trade for that scene?

Just in case you don't have enough to keep you busy, how about a buffalo at full gallop and a mounted rider with horsebow in pursuit???
Or maybe a mammoth surrounded by hunters with atlatls?
Or a traditional samurai with a yumi bow?
